Sacramento State College fielded its first football team in the Fall of 1954 only two years after leaving the Sacramento City College for it's current location.
The marching band was started in the fall semester of 1955 under the direction of Dr. Norman J. Hunt.
They performed at their first game on October 22nd, 1955 as the Hornets faced UC Santa Barbara.
The new band, which was also the Sacramento State College Symphonic Orchestra, numbered around 50 performers and played at all home football games and rallies.
